The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,328 – £38,303 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position based at the Institute for Structural and Molecular Biology in the laboratory of Dr. Arnvig. Dr Arnvig’s group is working on regulatory RNA in the human pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and the post will involve handling of M. tuberculosis in a BSL3 facility, a significant level of RNA work and specialised RNA-seq methods.
Duties and responsibilities of the post holder include but are not limited to: design, develop and refine experimental methods in order to obtain reliable data and drive the project forward, carry out analyses, critical evaluations, and interpretations using methodologies and other techniques appropriate to area of research, present regular progress reports on research to members of the research group or to external audiences to disseminate and publicise research findings, prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes.
The post is initially funded for 36 months.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in a relevant subject area, a strong interest in prokaryotic transcription and RNA biology, and must be able to perform experimental and computational tasks to a consistently high standard.
Strong publication and academic record, knowledge and practical experience in biological research, Scientific problem solving skills; the ability to abstract a problem and devise novel and elegant solutions and proven ability to analyse and write up data are also among essential criteria.
Experience with RNA work, regulatory RNA, in vitro transcription, previous experience with BSL3 work and Bioinformatic experience are among desirable criteria.
