With the world's energy utilization increasing, new solutions are required to satisfy the energy demand while minimizing the environmental impact. To meet this challenge, new technologies must be improved to achieve sustainable energy conversion and consumption. Alkaline electrolysis is a promising candidate towards the clean conversion of electricity into chemical energy. The focus of the PhD thesis will be on the synthesis of Ni based catalysts for alkaline electrolysis. A variety of emerging synthetic methods, using inorganic and organometallic precursors will be investigated and the resultant materials will be explored as electro-catalysts. Advanced transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques will be used, amongst others in-situ liquid and gas phase TEM to study in real time the stability and degradation of the electrocatalysts. Detailed project descriptions and planning will be undertaken directly with the successful candidate.

Your Job:Optimization of novel and scalable material preparation protocols, elucidation of the mechanisms of material synthesis, evaluation of the materials as electro-catalysts for the HER/OER in alkaline medium.
Your Profile:Master’s degree in chemistry, material science or a related field with a good final grade. Previous experience in one or more of the following is desirable: Inorganic Chemistry (in particular nanoparticle synthesis), Physical Chemistry (in particular electrochemistry and solid state) Knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical analysis methods are desirable. Full competence in the English language (written and spoken).
