Program description:
Conventional rechargeable lithium-ion battery (LIB) technology has already reached their limits with insufficient energy for electronics with longer standing time or electric vehicles with longer driving distance. Novel advanced battery technologies addressing the energy, cost, and reliability issues of conventional LIBs are highly demanded. This research program aims to develop novel rechargeable multivalent-ion battery technologies including magnesium (Mg2+)-, aluminum (Al3+)-, and zinc (Zn2+)-ion batteries/electrocatalysis systems. In order to achieve this goal, novel materials design and synthesis strategies will be applied for the preparation of various new nanostructured energy materials with excellent physico-chemical properties, unique microstructures and desired electrochemical/electrocatalytic behaviors.

Academic qualifications required:
Ph.D. in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields with extensive research experience in the preparation of nanostructured materials and the development of energy storage systems including rechargeable lithium (or other allaline)-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and electrocatalysis.

Eligibility requirements:
• Applicants must not currently hold a postdoctoral appointment at Concordia
• Priority will be given to postdoctoral fellows who have obtained their PhD from another university although in exceptional cases Concordia graduates may be considered
• Applicants must adhere to the postdoctoral fellow eligibility criteria outlined in Concordia University’s Postdoctoral Policy
