Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (MPI-MG)

Berlin, Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is an international research institute with approximately 350 employees, working in the field of medical genomics. A special focus lies on genome analysis of humans and other vertebrates.

The Research Group “Gene Regulation and Systems Biology of Cancer” (Head: Dr. Marie-Laure Yaspo), invites applications for the following open position available:

Bioinformatician (f/m/d)

(TVöD E13)
Code 19-05

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be involved in the analysis of next generation sequencing and imaging mass cytometry data, with an emphasis on transcriptomics of cancer cells. The tasks will comprise the analysis of RNA and DNA sequencing data, and biomarker identification in several disease contexts, using in-house pipelines and newly developed methods. The integration and visualization of multiple omics datasets will represent major aspects of the work.

Qualifications:
In the framework of cancer “omics” and biomarker discovery research programs, we are looking for a skilled bioinformatician at the master‘s or post-doctoral level. The candidate should have a strong background in statistics, mathematics and computational biology, including object-oriented programming (C++, Java, Perl, Python), web/database programming (e.g. MySQL, PHP) and pipeline development. Knowledge of R programming language is required, as well as an understanding of molecular genetics. The candidate should be strongly motivated, team-oriented and should have excellent communication skills.

Our research team comprises molecular biologists and bioinformaticians. Our group is involved in high-dimensional data generation and analysis with close cooperation between the wet and dry labs.

The position is offered initially for one year with the possibility of extension.
