Post-doctoral researcher in cancer research (available immediately)
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for working in the field of cancer research. The focus of the lab is to investigate the interplay between lineage-specific transcription factors and oncogenes in cancer for understanding the regulatory genomic features and chromatin architecture during tumorigenesis. The group employs modern genome-wide next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods such as ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, in situ Hi-C and CRISPR tools for genome editing.
The group led by Dr. Biswajyoti Sahu belongs to the Applied Tumor Genomics Program https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/enhancer-biology) in the Research Programs Unit of the Faculty of Medicine in University of Helsinki. The institute provides an excellent research environment with strong focus on cancer research and is very well-equipped with modern facilities for genomics, proteomics, microscopy and stem cell biology (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-life-science/hilife-research-infrastructures).
We offer a position in an ambitious, multi-disciplinary and teamwork-oriented group that is comprised of both wet-lab and computational scientists. The ideal candidate will be involved in generation and analysis of functional genomics datasets to understand the epigenetic landscape and enhancer malfunction in cancer. The candidate should have a PhD degree in any field of life sciences and a good understanding of biochemistry, genomics experiments and statistics is expected. Prior experience with mammalian cell culture, expression systems and molecular biology methods is required, and familiarity with NGS methods and analysis of high-throughput omics datasets will be an asset. Candidates with proven track record in terms of publications will be given preference.
With English as a working language, excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Knowledge of Finnish language is not required. Salaries are based on the salary system for Finnish universities (YPJ) and a six-month trial period will be applied.
