Young Investigator Group Preparation Program

at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany.

KIT offers you funding and mentorship to work on your research idea and prepare a proposal for your own third-party funded junior research group.

The funding includes your own position as well as initial investments for equipment and your own budget for consumables for a period of two years. After submission of your junior research group proposal in your second year, bridge funding can be provided for a third year. In case your proposal for a junior research group is successful and you meet the formal preconditions, you will be offered a junior professorship position with or without tenure track.

Our experts will assist you in a tailored program that will qualify you for a successful academic career and a tenure track professorship.

For candidates who are currently affiliated with an institution abroad, KIT also offers the possibility of remote mentorship and support. This option assumes you already have your own funding and will involve KIT experts who support you in preparing the proposal that will establish your group at KIT.

Who can apply? Early career researchers, in particular one to four years after the completion of their doctorate. German applicants are eligible to apply if they have substantial international research experience.

Based on the written applications, outstanding candidates will be invited to spend two weeks at KIT. During this period, professors and representatives from potential host institutes will be available to discuss your research project and the next steps in your career. Candidates will be notified of the acceptance in the program by the end of their stay.
