The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. It is made up of three research disciplines, including Ecosystems Biology & Sustainability, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Microbes & Pathogen Biology. Most staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014).
The School of aims to enhance the way we use technology in research, food security, microbiology, ecosystem biology, sustainability and many other related areas.
The successful Research Fellow will conduct research and related activities in the areas of: recombinant protein overexpression, protein purification, enzyme assay development and biotechnology commercialisation. The work involves the production, analysis and industrial application of novel enzymes from soil.
The successful candidate will have:
• Honours degree in Biochemistry or a closely related area (Microbiology or Molecular Biology).
• Have or about to obtain a PhD in the field of protein biochemistry or similar with a significant enzymology content in the research project.
• At least 3 years’ recent relevant research experience in experimental biochemistry.
• Demonstrated and significant interest in enzyme biotechnology commercialisation.

Salary scale: £33,199 – £39,610 per annum (potential to progress to £43,266 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
