Research Chair’s Professor (Industrial Estates and Free Zones)

• Develop a research plan with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates and the Steering Committee that covers the initial three years of the Chair’s operation.
• Conduct visits to industrial estates and free zones as required by the work of the Chair.
• Hire the Chair’s postdocs and work collaboratively with SQU researchers, faculty and investigators.
• Develop high-quality research projects and ensure that this research is internationally visible.
• Develop innovation for Industrial Management and Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship.
• Expand interaction with local entrepreneurs, global companies, and with national and global policy-makers and leaders.
• Seek funding for research projects from SQU’s Internal Grants, His Majesty’s Trust Fund Grants, consultancies, joint research, and external sources.
• Conduct research projects in various areas related to industrial estates and free zones within Oman, with a special focus on environmental and community impacts including air and soil quality, noise levels, water, flora and fauna, and socio-economy and health.
• Provide service to the field and to Omani society by making scientific and professional contributions to the understanding of the exigencies of the environmental and community impacts of industrial estates and free zones within Oman and across the MENA region.
• Contribute peer-reviewed scholarship in the field including through publishing papers in international, peer-reviewed journals, edited books, and/or authored books, and by making presentations at academic conferences and symposia in the areas of the Chair.
• Organize local and international conferences and symposia focusing on various areas of industrial estates and free zones, with a special focus on environmental and community impacts.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of SQU programs and courses that are concerned with various aspects of industrial estates and free zones, in addition to offering training, workshops, mentoring, and graduate supervision within these areas.
• Maintain accurate, objective and complete records of the functioning of the Research Chair program, including by authoring an annual report that details developments and opportunities related to industrial estates and free zones in Oman.
• Ensure that the Research Chair program functions effectively and fully adheres to SQU policies and regulations.
• Provide service to the Center for Environmental Studies and Research and to the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research through committee participation, attendance at meetings, and contributing to center/office initiatives and activities.
