The position is available immediately. This is a full time position with a limited contract of 2 years and the possibility of extension. Salary and working hours will be according to the German grade 13 TV-L.
The position will be associated with Department for Data Driven Analysis of Biological Networks (Prof. Michael Wibral) at the new Campus Institute for Dynamics of Biological Networks (CIDBN).
We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for an interdisciplinary research project studying the information theoretic foundations of neural computation in biological and artificial neural networks. Our group’s research encompass the design of neural networks from information theoretic first principles, the development of novel information theoretic approaches to study neural computation, and the analysis of large scale neural recordings in the context of predictive coding.
The ideal applicant should have an excellent PhD in mathematics, physics, computer science, cognitive science, electrical engineering or equivalent, and a strong interest in neuroscience. We expect excellent analytical and coding skills (e.g. python, julia, java, C++) as well as proven skills in scientific writing (including proficiency in English).
The Göttingen Campus is a leading center of neuroscience in Europe hosting numerous internationally renowned research institutions, including the University and its Medical Center, the three life science Max Planck Institutes, the European Neuroscience Institute, the German Primate Center, and the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (BCCN) Göttingen. The Campus Institute for Dynamics of Biological Networks is a newly founded transdisciplinary institute. Its mission is to foster frontier research at the border of mathematics, physics, and biological sciences and to develop advanced mathematical and computational concepts for the analysis of biological networks. On the Göttingen Campus the CIDBN closely interacts with the BCCN and participates in three key research foci: Primate Cognition, Physics to Medicine and Life at the Nanoscale.
