Diamond Light Source

Full time/Fixed term 1 year
We are seeking a suitable candidate to provide maternity cover as a support scientist who will primarily work on our synchrotron instrument for long duration experiments (LDEs). The position will be based on Beamline I11 at Diamond, which is a dedicated high-resolution and time-resolved powder diffraction facility. It is a versatile and flexible instrument catering to diverse types of experiments using a wide range of sample environments. These include LDEs to study slow dynamics such as capacity loss in Li-ion batteries, mineral formations in cold environments and structural degradation of materials under non-ambient conditions.
You should have appropriate qualifications and experience in the use of X-ray powder diffraction. Experience of synchrotron methodology, laboratory analysis (SEM, Raman and IR) and data refinement would be an advantage. You will be required to work with the beamline team and with other support staff to ensure efficient beamline operation, user support, maintenance of sample cells and testing new software.
