as of now.

Reference is made to § 61 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG), the non-tariff terms of employment apply, and to the conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

The future job holder will be appointed to the JLU as a university professor and granted leave by JLU to head the project area Functional Environmental Genomics of the LOEWE Centre for Translational Biodiversity Genomics (LOEWE-TBG) at the SGN in Frankfurt / Main. At the JLU, she/he participates in the teaching of two semester hours per week and in the training of young scientists in the field of environmental sciences.

Duties: The future position holder is responsible for representing the field of functional environmental genomics in research and teaching. It is expected that he/she will institutionalize and develop the highly innovative research field of functional environmental monitoring by means of genomic and/or transcriptomic approaches and that he/she will assume a leading international position in this field. Research fields include the interfaces between molecular community ecology, functional ecology as well as population and biodiversity genomics of taxonomically diverse eukaryotes. We are looking for a personality whose outstanding scientific qualifications strengthen the competences of the LOEWE-TBG in the field of functional molecular ecology and genomics.

The LOEWE-TBG is jointly funded by SGN, Goethe University Frankfurt, JLU and the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology with the aim of conducting intensive basic and translational research in the field of biodiversity genomics. The center will establish a new and taxonomically broad genome collection, investigate the genomic and functional diversity of life and make genomic resources available for demand-oriented applied research. The professorship will also actively contribute to the professional development of the JLU.

Requirements: Experiences in leading a research or working group as well as participation in collaborative projects are required. The outstanding scientific qualification, preferably in the aforementioned research fields, should be proven by relevant international publications in renowned journals and by independent successes in the acquisition of peer-reviewed third-party funding projects from national and international sponsors. Interest and experience in translational research at the interface between science and society is desirable. The connection to existing research projects of the partner institutions SGN and JLU is explicitly desired. In particular, the professorship is aimed at scientists with international experience.

JLU and SGN aim to employ more women in academic research. We therefore particularly encourage female candidates to apply. JLU pursues the goal at faculty leadership level of increased competence in dealing with gender and family-related issues. JLU is regarded as a family-friendly university.
