At TU Dresden, Faculty of Civil Engineering the Institute of Construction Informatics offers a positions as

Research Associate / Postdoc
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 14 TV-L)

starting February 1 st 2019 or later. The position is limited for three years and can be extended to a maximum of six years subject to excellent performance. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (e.g. Habilitation thesis – equivalent to DSc.).
Currently, teaching and research of the Institute of Construction Informatics focus on Building Information Modelling. It is envisaged to extend the portfolio within the next three years substantially. To achieve this, the University will set-up a new research laboratory for Digital Design, Construction and Operation of Buildings and Infrastructure Systems, covering areas such as (i) digital surveying, (ii) digital manufacturing, (iii) building automation and control; and (iv) robotics. The lab will support research and teaching activities. An interdisciplinary team of researchers with a background in engineering, architecture and applied informatics will set-up and operate this laboratory.
Task: This position will play an important role in the further development of the Institute supporting its responsibility for delivery of the core syllabus in the discipline of Construction Informatics. Reporting to the chaired Professor for Construction Informatics the appointee will provide leadership in delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate taught modules. The appointee is expected to substantially contribute to the further growth the Institute, including the development of an extended research and teaching strategy and to obtain funding for support of research activities. The appointee is expected to act as deputy of the Chair and Head of the Institute when required and as applicable. The appointee is expected to set-up and maintain their own junior research group.
Requirements: Applicants should hold a university and doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) obtained from an internationally recognized university in either engineering, architecture or applied computer science. Appointees should have a substantial publication track record in recognised scientific journals; knowledge and skills in at least one of the following areas is required: (i) Big Data, Data Analysis, Pattern Recognition, (ii) Robotics, (iii) Development of Simulation Models in Engineering; knowledge in building information modelling. Good communication, organisation and interpersonal skills as well as willingness to travel and mobility are required. An excellent command of the English and German language in speaking and writing to prepare research papers is essential. A demonstrable record of success in appropriate/ equivalent leadership and management of international, interdisciplinary research projects and teams as well as experience in teaching is of advantage.
