6 PhD Student Positions in the PhD Programme
“Infection Biology of Human Pathogens @ MvPI”
(starting Feb 1st, 2019 or later)
The Max von Pettenkofer Institute (MvPI) is part of LMU Munich and comprises the Departments of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Epidemiology (Chair: Prof. S. Suerbaum) and the Department of Virology (Chair: Prof. O. T. Keppler). The MvPI (http://www.mvp.uni-muenchen.de/en/home/) has modern research facilities in the heart of Munich (Microbiology) and on the campus in Munich Großhadern (Virology). The central aim of this programme is to give young researchers the opportunity to perform their PhD work in the rapidly moving field of the infection biology of human pathogens in a highly stimulating international environment. The successful applicant will be enrolled as a PhD student at LMU and participate in a study programme comprising scientific lectures and seminars as well as laboratory and soft skill courses. Collaborations including exchange visits with international collaboration partners are encouraged. Pathogenic agents studied in the groups involved in the programme include Helicobacter pylori, Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella, and HIV. We also study the human microbiome and its interactions with pathogens. Each project is addressed with a combination of biochemical, genetic, immunology and bioinformatics approaches.
Candidates who hold the equivalent of a master’s or diploma degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Life Sciences, or who graduated in medicine are welcome to apply.
