Job description:

As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

The Institute of Epidemiology (EPI) assesses genetic, environmental and lifestyle risk factors which jointly determine the occurrence of major chronic diseases. We focus on the development and progression of metabolic, respiratory and allergic diseases, as well as heart diseases and mental health. Our goal is to better understand the molecular underpinning of disease and to translate this knowledge into personalized approaches of prevention as well as policies to improve health. Our research builds on the unique resources of the KORA cohort and the birth cohorts GINI and LISA. We also play a central role in the German National Cohort (GNC) and manage the central GNC biorepository.

Job Description

You will lead a reasearch team in lung epidemiology, exploiting, among other resources, the data bases of the German National Cohort and the KORA cohortYou are eager to join existing and initiate new colaborations within and beyond the institute and the centre, nationally within the German National Cohort consortia and internationally by contributing with your specific expertise and methodolical profileYou will have the opportunity for clinical collaborations e.g. to initiate prevention research or other projects at the university hospitals in Munich and AugsburgYou will have the opportunity to make use of the HMGU core facilities including state of the art genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, proteomics facilities, as well as the institutes activities at the KORA study centre and aerosol measurement stationYou are expected to join the German Centre for Lung Research and benefit from the respective resources and networks

Your Qualifications

You have University Diploma or Master's Degree and Ph.D. and your scientific interest is focused on any area of pulmonary epidemiology including e.g.: environmental interactions, genetic and epigenetic risk factors, metabolomics and proteomics in pulmonary epidemiology or otherYou have hands on experience in setting up epidemiological studies, developing standard operating procedures and providing quality assurance for lung function measurements and other assessments relevant to lung epidemiologyYou have demonstrated expertise in one or several of the following methods: classical epidemiology, causal inference, AI / ML approaches to epidemiology, prevention trials, advanced statistics, translational researchWe expect an excellent scientific track record (as documented by publication record and achieved grants), an innovative mind and a profound passion for science and scientific collaboration as well as excellent presentation skills
