Job description:

As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

The Institute of Epidemiology (EPI) assesses genetic, environmental and lifestyle risk factors which jointly determine the occurrence of major chronic diseases. We focus on the development and progression of metabolic, respiratory and allergic diseases, as well as heart diseases and mental health. Our goal is to better understand the molecular underpinning of disease and to translate this knowledge into personalized approaches of prevention as well as policies to improve health. Our research builds on the unique resources of the KORA cohort and the birth cohorts GINI and LISA. We also play a central role in planning and setting up of the German National Cohort (GNC) and build the GNC biorepository.

Job Description

You will join a highly motivated reasearch team in epidemiologic research, exploiting, among other resources, the large data bases of the German National Cohort and the KORA cohortYou will be supervised by experienced, and advanced scientists of the Institute of EpidemiologyYou will have the chance to initiate or join collaborations with partners inside or outside the Helmholtz-CentreYou will participate in the Helena PhD Program of the Helmholtz Zentrum München and graduate from the LMU at the Chair of Epidemiology held by Prof. PetersYou will be able to participate in individual courses and / or PhD Programs at the LMU and TUM. You will have the opportunity to join German Centres for Health Research, and benefit from their respective resources and networks - Epidemiological research using German National Cohort and KORA Cohort dataYou will supervise master students and work in close interaction with data managers

Your Qualifications

Excellent Masters or Diploma degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or related subject or equivalent experience and qualificationExcellent letter reference by former supervisorStatistical expertise including state-of-the-art and innovative methods (such as causal inference or machine learning, or others)First experience with meta-analysis and / or large complex data-setsPassion for epidemiological research in multidisciplinary teams
