Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.
The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant starting as soon as possible, ending 30 June 2019, funded by the BBSRC. This grant is held by Professor Nick Harberd and the work is to be conducted in his lab in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3RB. The research topic is Genetic Control of Nitrogen Assimilation and Use Efficiency.
The project involves the development of methods for genetic and molecular genetic analysis of the co-regulation of growth and metabolism in rice and model species. The project is part of a long-term collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB), Beijing, and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences China National Rice Research Institute (CNRRI), Hangzhou, and funded by the BBSRC-Newton Rice Initiative.
The postholder will carry out laboratory research into PIF and HY5 function in the co-regulation of rice and model plant nitrogen assimilation and growth. This research will be supervised by Professor Nicholas Harberd in collaboration with Professor Xiangdong Fu and Professor Qian Qian.
The postholder should have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area. Experience of one or more of: molecular biology; molecular genetics, plant genetics, biochemistry, plant nutrition/physiology, bioinformatics, whole genome analysis. Experience of analysis of PIF/HY5/DELLA function in the co-regulation of plant growth and metabolism. High motivation with intellectual curiosity and rigour. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks. Ability to assimilate and evaluate the relevant literature and its implications. Ability to write well-crafted scientific papers. Willingness and ability to communicate with colleagues and to assist their work. Social responsibility in the laboratory. Statistical and data analysis skills. Ability to present data to colleagues and non-specialist audiences. Experience with rice and/or Arabidopsis genetics. Experience with handling large sequencing data sets. Experience with computational analysis of whole genome sequencing data. Familiarity with genome-editing via CRISPR/cas.
