to begin in summer semester 2019. The position is a W2 fixed-term positions (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.

Scientific environment

The professorship belongs to the Department of Sport and Health Sciences which is committed to further strengthening its expertise in the area of Health Sciences. The successful candidate is expected to cooperate both within the Department of Sport and Health Sciences and with other Departments of TUM such as the School of Medicine, the School of Governance, or the School of Education, and beyond. A joint appointment with the TUM School of Life Sciences is anticipated.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the area of Molecular Mechanisms of Muscles for Exercise and Health. The research should be linked to skeletal muscle and could be in one of two areas:
1) Signal transduction mechanisms by which health interventions, risk factors and/or exercise influence our health and/or physical fitness or
2) The genetics and/or epigenetics of exercise and health-related traits.
The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs, especially in the B.Sc. program Health Science and in the M.Sc. program Health Sciences – Prevention and Health Promotion.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisite. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
