DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More than 2400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in science, technology and administration.
DESY looks back on a long tradition in synchrotron radiation experiments in a wide range of applications and has developed into one of the leading centres in this field worldwide. For high-end synchrotron radiation applications, the 3rd generation source PETRA III is available since 2009 as one of the most brilliant X-ray sources worldwide. The 'Coherence Applications' beamline P10 is specialized in the development and application of coherent X-ray scattering techniques in the medium hard X-ray regime. Scientifically the experiments aim to gain a deeper understanding of structural and dynamical properties of matter at nanometer length scales. The candidate should persue his own reasearch project applying coherent X-ray scattering methods and enable the P10 beamline user community to perform successfully state-of-the-art experiments.
The positionWork in a highly team-oriented environment in very close collaboration with the user communityDevelop and actively pursue an own inhouse research programUser support at P10Participation in the continous development of the beamline P10 as a world-wide leading coherent X-ray scattering beamline
RequirementsPhD in physics or equivalent qualificationProfound kriowledge and expertise of at least one coherent X-ray scattering method (like e.g. Bragg CDI, CDI, Ptychography or XPCS)Excellent team worker, high-level experimental skills are requiredExperimental experience at 3rd generation synchrotron sources is requiredStrong interest in software (multi-core/CUDA) or instrumentation development would be an asset
Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties. Handicapped persons will be given preference to other equally qualified applicants. DESY operates flexible work schemes. DESY is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and encourages applications from women. Vacant positions at DESY are in general open to part-time-work. During each application procedure DESY will assess whether the post can be filled with part-time employees.
