We have an opening for a Research Technician to join the laboratory of Dr. Sean B. Carroll at the University of Maryland-College Park. You will be engaged in the exploration of both basic and potentially translational questions about the molecular biology and evolution of snake venom. The position is best suited for someone who loves laboratory research and continuing to learn about biology. The lab has ample, long-term funding.
-Assist lab personnel with experiments in protein biochemistry and molecular genetics
-Perform some independent research
-Participate in laboratory meetings
-Help with lab organization, ordering supplies
-Bachelor degree in life science, with courses in molecular biology
-Minimum 2 years experience in a life sciences laboratory
-Protein Chemistry (purification, characterization, quantitative analysis)
-General experience in molecular genetics (PCR, DNA and RNA isolation, cloning, sequencing protocols gene and protein expression)
-Tissue culture or animal handling (mice) experience a plus
-Excellent analytical and organizational skills
-Able to work independently and as a team member
-Able to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques
-Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction
-Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise
Salaries will be based on the generous Howard Hughes Medical Institute salary range.
