The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Research Associate 1. This position involves performance of routine as well as some non-routine duties requiring basic proficiency in technical laboratory skills and will receive general supervision from the Principal Investigator/Laboratory Director. Specifically, duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, participating in the scheduling and performance of experiments related to tumor immunology studies in a research laboratory; assisting in the daily management of the laboratory animal colonies, including handling of mice; conducting laboratory assignments, including participating in the planning and conducting of animal protocols related to immunology laboratory projects; conducting experimental procedures and maintaining accurate records which includes participating in the process of interpreting experimental data and solving problems in scientific and technical execution; and operating routine scientific equipment. Duties and responsibilities may also include collecting specimens obtained from experimental animals; performing standard immunological techniques to include monoclonal antibody binding assays, and ELISA; assisting with tissue culture-related experiments; performing microscopy and immunohistological staini ng of tissue sections; assisting with ordering supplies and stocking inventory for laboratory and animal colonies; assisting with scientific literature searches and updating laboratory bibliographies; providing support in the preparation of reports of relevant findings in manuscripts for submission; and providing support in preparation of required monthly/quarterly/annual reports including grant progress reports, environmental health and safety, animal protocols (IACUC), etc.

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Master’s Degree in Microbiology, Immunology, or a closely related field of study and some research experience gained during education/training or in employment in a research position. Prior experience in an academic research laboratory setting is desirable. Experience in the management of laboratory animal colonies, specifically mice, is highly desirable. Must be capable of working independently with the ability to exercis e sound independent judgment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good command of the English language. Good computer skills.
