The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking a Research Associate 2. The Research Associate 2 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director. Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, etc… Understands and interprets research protoco ls and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.Execute highly specialized next-generation sequencing sample preparation protocols for the Center for Genome Technology’s sequencing core. Operate various laboratory equipment, including, but not limited to, the Perkin Elmer Sciclone G3, Illumina HiSeq 3000, NextSeq and MiSeq, and Covaris Adaptive Focused Acoustic Disruptor. Analyze data for quality and consistency, troubleshoot equipment and protocols, prepare reports on progress/trends and make appropriate recommendations to supervisors. Perform highly specialized sequence capture sample preparation protocols, as well as RNA sample preparations to run the Illumina HiSeq, NextSeq and MiSeq sequencing platform. Operate various lab equipment includin g but not limited to centrifuges, liquid handling robots (specifically the Perkin Elmer Sciclone G3), PCR blocks, Illumina HiSeq, NextSeq and MiSeq, and Covaris Adaptive Focused Acoustic Disruptor. Perform quantitation and qualitation of DNA/RNA using Nanodrop, Qubit, gel electrophoresis, qPCR, Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer, Agilent TapeStation and Caliper LabChip GX. Analyze data for quality and consistency, troubleshoot equipment and protocols, prepare reports on progress/trends and make appropriate recommendations or conclusions to supervisor. Schedule meetings with company technical support and engineers to resolve experimental and hardware issues. Track project progress, provide status updates, and provide the information necessary to ensure that a given project moves through the CGT pipeline. Prioritize and complete research in a timely, reproducible manner independently and within a team setting. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.

The minimum requirements are as follows: Bachelor’s Degree in biology or a health science field required. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Direct experience with next-generation sequencing protocols and procedures is preferred. Candidate has to successfully complete CITI training within the first 30 days of employment. They also must pass background check as well as obtain all necessary immunizations required for the position. The candidate must be willing to attain an ASCP certification in Molecular Biology and State of Florida License in Molecular Pathology after hiring (if they do not already have).
