We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Professor Rob Kloses research group (www.kloselab.co.uk) to study how CpG islands use chromatin-based and epigenetic mechanisms to regulate gene expression. The candidate will study these fundamental processes using single-cell and quantitative approaches to examine gene transcription and expression. This will rely on the use of natural and reporter gene systems, CRISPR/Cas9-based genome engineering, and single cell approaches to study gene expression. Through these studies we aim to define how CpG islands and chromatin states at gene promoters function to control gene expression in normal biology and human disease.
Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject area. You will have a strong background in, or a desire to use, single cell and quantitative approaches to dissect the molecular processes that underpin gene expression. You will have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in order to make new discoveries and drive the research to publication. Ideally, you will have experience in: mammalian cell culture, analysis of gene and reporter gene expression, CRISPR/Cas9-based genome engineering, and single-cell methods to study gene expression, although training in some of these areas will be available.
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.
The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
