Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

You will be responsible for the general management of the Energy Storage Laboratory, providing a service to members of the research team, external partners and collaborators working in ES. You will support non-expert researchers using the analytical and battery fabrication tools, but will also have responsibilities for short-to-medium term projects in collaboration with key research partners on a variety of materials research topics.


Our aim is to conduct internationally leading, challenging, and potentially transformative ES research, by providing: integration and extension of existing UK research excellence in energy materials; critical mass of international excellence; collaboration and co-ordination; sharing and accessing of new, state-of-the-art facilities; operating as a beacon for excellence in UK energy storage materials; and providing a pipeline of basic science innovations for UK industry. Oxford University is the lead for the ESPRC SuperGen Energy Storage Hub (Prof Bruce) that involves a large number of academic and industrial partners, who can be integrated into the evolving Royce ES programme.


With a good first degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject, you will have proven experience of ensuring the smooth operation of a university laboratory (or similar research environment). You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, building and maintaining effective working relationships with researchers and students from the Materials Department as well as visitors and collaborators from other University departments and industry. You will be well-organised and self-motivated with the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research laboratory, able to identify and plan contingencies for potential issues that could disrupt research activity and to carry out appropriate research activities within a given time-scale.
