Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron and one of the most advanced facilities in the world for scientific and engineering research.
Diamond harnesses the power of electrons accelerated close to relativistic speeds to produce light, 10 billion times brighter than the sun, which can be used by academics and industry to study the composition and structure of matter. Light beams are directed into laboratories known as ‘beamlines’, housing state of the art equipment which is controlled to direct experiments and record vast quantities of data for scientific analysis. Diamond and its pioneering capabilities are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.
Diamond’s team of software scientists and engineers develop innovative applications to orchestrate the beamline experiments, record experimental data and process and visualise this data for analysis by scientists.
