Faculty Openings

The Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL, www.mfpl.ac.at) are a joint venture of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna, dedicated to top-level biological and medical research. MFPL is home to many highly active research groups, covering Biochemistry and Biophysics; Developmental Biology; Molecular Mechanisms of Disease; Evolution; Genetics, Epigenetics and Gene Regulation, Immunology and Pathogens; Molecular Cell Biology; Neuroscience; Nucleus and Chromosome Biology; RNA Biology; Structural and Computational Biology/Bioinformatics (http://www.mfpl.ac.at/research/research-areas.html).

Together with the IMP, GMI and IMBA, MFPL is part of the Vienna BioCenter (VBC) with 40 faculty holding ERC grants (present and past). The VBC is home to 1400 scientists and 700 students from over 40 different countries and provides access to state of the art facilities (http://www.viennabiocenter.org/), highly competitive international PhD programs and numerous joint scientific activities. MFPL is seeking to recruit a (full time, permanent position):

University Professor of Advanced Microscopy and Cellular Dynamics

We are looking for outstanding scientists addressing important questions about biological structure and dynamics, bridging molecular structural biology and cell biology by applying cryo-electron microscopy (both single-particle and /or tomography) in combination with other experimental and computational techniques of biochemistry and molecular biophysics.

The recruited candidate is expected to develop an ambitious, innovative and collaborative research program creating a strong synergy with other research groups. With an extensive background in structural biology and molecular biophysics, the candidate will consolidate and extend the education of integrative structural biology centered on multiscale analysis of biological systems. High-end instrumentation (Glacios Cryo-TEM) is currently available through the Vienna Biocenter Core EM Facility, while access to a Titan Krios cryo-electron microscope will be available through a consortium, in part supported by startup funds.

Vienna is a vibrant multicultural capital, repeatedly ranked among the top-three cities worldwide for its quality of living. Child care facilities are available at the VBC. MFPL wishes to increase its share of female group leaders and applications from couples are also encouraged. The working language of the MFPL and VBC is English.
