About the opportunity
The position of Associate Professor or Professor of Infectious Diseases is to provide leadership in education and research in Infectious Diseases and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. The position will be appointed in the Sydney Medical School, have a clinical appointment in Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) or NSW Health Pathology, and be integral to the multidisciplinary research activities of the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity (MBI). The successful applicant should have an internationally competitive research program, experience in the successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and deep understanding of the rapid changes in the clinical and laboratory aspects of infectious disease and medical microbiology.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in curriculum design and to contribute to the delivery of state-of-the-art courses. The successful applicant will also be part of the leadership team at the MBI, whose executive is based at Westmead, with major sites on the Camperdown and Camden campuses. The appointee is expected to be offered the opportunity to participate in clinical and/or laboratory activities either in the Department of Infectious Diseases (SLHD) or the Microbiology Laboratory (NSW Health Pathology) which are integrated and co-located within Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH).

Term and remuneration
The successful applicant will be offered a full-time continuing position at the level of either Associate Professor or Professor, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Clinical activities within LHD’s will be in accord with the Senior Medical Practitioners Clinical Academics award arrangements as they apply in NSW and will be under the Sydney LHD’s and/or NSW Health Pathology’s governance.
