Scientific / postdoctoral posts
The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national research centre for Earth sciences in Germany. With approx. 1260 employees (including visiting scientist), the GFZ is conducting interdisciplinary research on the “System Earth” and the influence of humans on the planet. As a member of the Helmholtz Association, it is part of Germany’s largest science organization. For Section 6.1 Sedimentbeckenmodellierung we invite applications for a temporary position due to parental leave for a
Job Vacancy No. 1922The focus of our research in Section 6.1 is on the geodynamic behaviour of sedimentary basins. We address those physical factors which control the formation and development of basins, as well as the conditions and processes at the present day. We use the results of geological and geophysical investigations as input for our numerical models, which also allow us to derive predictions regarding utilization scenarios for the underground. We use such data-based numerical models, for example, to compute the pressure and temperature conditions in sedimentary basins. Our workflows from the integration of data into structural models to the simulation of coupled thermo-hydraulic-mechanical processes require specific numerical tools that we develop according to the scientific questions addressed.
