GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. The Cryogenics department is responsible for the campus-wide supply of cryogenic and liquid helium. For this purpose, the department operates several refrigeration plants for helium. The largest helium refrigeration system so far is the one for the so-called Series Test Facility (STF). Over the next few years, 108 dipole magnets for FAIR will be tested here. The testing takes place in an international team of cryo specialists and magnet experts.
To assist this team, the Cryogenics (CRY) department is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the following position:

with the orientation mechanical construction, mechatronic or comparable qualification.
Tasks include:Control of the helium refrigeration system including distribution system and test benches Supervision of the test stands Participation in the alteration of the test stands Perform pressure tests Maintenance of the vacuum infrastructure Supervision and support of maintenance and service Support for troubleshooting the other refrigeration plants on the campus.
Essential Skills and Abilities:Experience in process engineering Safe handling of software for the automation of complex systems Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations and laws, in particular the Pressure Equipment Directive Ideally, experience in the field of cryogenics and helium liquefaction High competence in conceptual work and design Team player with excellent communication skills Good knowledge of English and German languages.
The position is initially for 3 years. There are good prospects for a longer-term career. Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund).
