GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. The Cryogenics department is responsible for the campus-wide supply of cryogenic and liquid helium. The Cryogenics department currently operates four refrigeration systems on the GSI campus. In addition, we are specifying the cryo-infrastructure for FAIR, one of the biggest challenges in this area in Europe today.
To assist this team, the Cryogenics department (CRY) is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the following position:
Engineer (m/f) (B.Sc. / M.Sc. / Diploma)

with the orientation of physical engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering or comparable qualification.
Tasks include:Participation in the operation of existing cryo plants Participation in the work package "Distribution System", the campus-wide distribution system for cryogenic helium Interface coordination between machine and civil construction in terms of transportation, assembly and collision avoidance with other installations Development of assembly strategies, maintenance and management of the time scheduleExperience in process engineering Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations and laws, in particular the Pressure Equipment Directive Good scientific and physical knowledge Ideally, experience in the field of cryogenics and helium liquefaction CAD software skills are appreciated High competence in conceptual work and design Team player with excellent communication skills Good knowledge of English and German language
The position is initially for 3 years. As part of the FAIR project, there are good prospects for a longer-term career.
Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund).
