Columbia University and the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (Hamburg)

The Department of Physics at Columbia University and the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD) at Hamburg, Germany seek to recruit an individual working in the area of experimental condensed matter or optical physics.
Columbia University, MPSD, the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Physics, and the Flatiron Institute of the Simons Foundation are planning to form a new joint research Center on Nonequilibrium Quantum Phenomena. The selected candidate will be based as a Max Planck Junior Group Leader at MPSD in Hamburg for an initial five years, and then, subject to standard reviews, would join Columbia as a tenure track faculty member (Assistant Professor of Physics).
The position at MPSD starts on July 1, 2019.

It is expected that the candidate will develop a vigorous independent research program, continuing the long Columbia and Max Planck Society records of forefront accomplishment in science. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field and have demonstrated the ability to do pioneering experimental research as well as the promise of excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
