Three PhD studentships are available in Prof. Michal Hocek group starting from September 2019. The candidates will join an international multidisciplinary team of the Joint Laboratory of Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry of Nucleic Acids of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IOCB Prague) and the Charles University in Prague. The project will involve the design and synthesis of novel base-modified nucleosides, nucleotides and nucleic acids and their applications in medicinal chemistry (development modified aptamers or therapeutic oligonucleotides) or chemical biology (biological imaging, regulation of transcription etc.).
The applicant should hold (or be expected to obtain in 2019) a MSc. degree or an equivalent (in organic or medicinal chemistry, chemical biology or biochemistry) and should have a good theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory experience in organic synthesis and/or bioorganic chemistry or biochemistry and a good command of spoken and written English.
