SINTEF is one of Scandinavia’s largest independent research institutes with expertise in areas from digitisation, sensor development, oil and gas, material characterisation and MEMs research and production. A postdoctoral fellowship is available within the Department of Smart Sensor Systems. You will join a young and vibrant group of researchers with a project portfolio establishing research on graphene and other 2D materials in Norway.

The fellowship period is 2 years with the possibility to make it permanent if both parties are so desirous. The project, Nanoparticle-2D hybrid structures for smart environmental sensing (2DSense), is supported by the Research Council of Norway and is in collaboration with Prof. B. R. Mehta of the Department of Physics at The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. You will focus on the development and characterisation of 2D heterostructures, specifically for environmental gas sensing. The developed 2D heterostructure devices will then be decorated with nanoparticles to improve selectivity by our partners at IIT, Delhi.

You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Experimental Physics, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines. Applicants will have substantial knowledge and experience of 2D material heterostructure assembly, device fabrication and be able to perform electrical characterisation measurements. Experience in working in clean rooms is essential. Knowledge of e-beam lithography, RIE, metallisation techniques and instrumentation (Labview etc) is essential. You should also be well-organised and self-motivated with excellent communication skills. A strong publication record in internationally peer-reviewed journals is essential.

The position is based in Oslo; however you will be expected to travel to Trondheim for periods (45 minute flight) to work in Nanolab (micro fabrication cleanroom with state of the art facilities at NTNU). As the project is a joint effort between SINTEF and IIT Delhi, the candidate will be expected to spend time in Delhi, working with our Indian partners who are experts in nanoparticle fabrication. The start date is 1st April 2019.
