The German Diabetes Center (DDZ) is the Leibniz Institute for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine University (HHU) in Düsseldorf and funded by the Federal Ministry of Health and Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The DDZ as an interdisciplinary institute links molecu-lar and cell biological basic research with clinical investigation.
The DDZ aims at developing new approaches for the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treat-ment of diabetes mellitus and at improving the treatment of its complications. The DDZ is a member of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD).
The Institute of Clinical Diabetology (Professor Michael Roden) at DDZ is offering a
PhD-Student Position in Medical Sciences
We are looking for a talented and highly dynamic young scientist to join the Research Group of Profes-sor Roden, which studies energy metabolism with one focus on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The candidate is going to work in an international multidisciplinary team. The successful can-didate will address the mechanisms of the early development of NAFLD using cell culture, transcriptom-ic, and proteomic technologies. The unique concept is based on the collaborative design of the project including Sanofi as a pharmaceutical industry partner, which will be carried out in Düsseldorf, but also at the Frankfurt site of Sanofi. A three-years contract is offered.
The PhD program will involve the Medical Research School at Düsseldorf University. A close collabora-tion with scientists at Sanofi Diabetes Research is a key element of this project. This unique setting offers access to state-of-the-art technologies and excellent core facilities.
The successful applicant will be responsible for and contributing to:
• Studying the development of metabolic liver disease mainly in a cell culture model
• Data processing and analyzing
• Presenting the work at national and international conferences and writing the paper
• Master’s degree/proof of finalized Master thesis in Cellular/Molecular Biology, Medical Sciences, Life Sciences, Chemistry or related disciplines
• Practical expertise in cellular and molecular biology
• Excellent communication skills in English
• A team player with qualities as independent researcher
The position will be starting from 1st January 2019 or later. The initial contract runs for 3 years, prolon-gation is possible. The salary is based on qualification and experience according to the collective agreement “TV-L” in its current version for North Rhine-Westphalia.
