Department of Immunology and Kidney Cancer Program

The Department of Immunology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, together with the Kidney Cancer Program (KCP) of the Simmons Cancer Center, is seeking faculty with research interests in basic and translational immunology with relevance to cancer. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be recruited on a tenure track, and at the Associate Professor level, with tenure.

Applicants should have a PhD or MD degree, at least 3 years of postdoctoral training, and an exceptional publication record. Successful applicants are expected to be competitive for additional start-up funds from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) to a total of up to $4 million for Assistant Professors and $8 million for Associate Professors. Candidates will be expected to establish an independent research program in cancer immunology (with a focus on kidney cancer) and to train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows as members of our nationally recognized graduate programs in Immunology and Cancer Biology.

The Department of Immunology is home to a Nobel Laureate and 3 members of the National Academy of Sciences; the Kidney Cancer Program is one of two programs in the US recognized by the National Cancer Institute with a Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) award. UT Southwestern faculty as a whole include 5 Nobel Laureates, 15 members of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and 36 members of the National Academy of Sciences or Medicine. Through the KCP and SPORE, candidates will have access to a unique set of resources including an extensive collection of clinically and genomically-annotated patient tumor and blood samples (including >1,000 tumor samples preserved viable), genetically-engineered as well as PDX models, and samples from patients on immunotherapy trials. Candidates will be supported through both KCP and institutional core facilities with cutting edge research technologies.
