Research Associate (Cell and Molecular Biology Scientist) (Fixed Term)
C.I.M.R. Division of Translational Medicine
The ALBORADA Drug Discovery Institute (ADDI) at Cambridge, part of the University of Cambridge CIMR Division of Translational Medicine (http://cambridge-ddi.alzheimersresearchuk.org/ ), is seeking a biologist or biochemist with expertise in cellular and molecular biology techniques to join a large dynamic team of scientists. The ADDI at Cambridge forms part of the Alzheimer’s Research UK funded Drug Discovery Alliance and prosecutes drug discovery projects from target to in vivo proof of concept and beyond for novel targets in the neurodegeneration therapeutic area.
The successful candidate will join our team responsible for target validation, target engagement and cell-based assays and will develop and execute a range of experiments in neuronal models to identify and validate novel targets and mechanisms of potential therapeutic value. The successful candidate will be a lab based biologist, will hold or be close to completion of a PhD in a relevant subject and is expected to contribute scientific leadership in a range of drug discovery and target validation projects.
You will have significant experience in the manipulation and analysis of gene/protein function in mammalian cells, ideally neurons. This should include gene transfer/RNAi, analysis of protein-protein interactions, gene expression and gene functional analysis. Experience with imaging-based assays and/or FACS-based screening would be desirable. Experience of drug discovery in autophagy and/or a relevant area of neurodegenerative disease would also be advantageous.
Working with both chemists and other biologists, this opportunity provides training and development. The successful candidate is expected to be organized, flexible and eager to implement improvements to protocols. Interpersonal and communication skills are also expected.
Specific enquiries about the post may be addressed to Dr. James Duce (firstname.lastname@example.org).
