We are interested in the fundamental principles underlying cellular programs in cancer and stem cells, which we study at the level of gene and RNA control. Of specific interest is the control of gene transcription by RNA polymerase II. Recently we have become interested in transcription-associated kinases. For the latter we currently develop chemical inhibitors that are evaluated in cellular and mouse model systems. In the current project we wish to study cellular programs in cancer model systems with a focus on the contribution of transcription kinases.

Along this line we are seeking a talented and motivated biologist/biochemist at the PhD student level with basic experience in molecular genetics/biochemistry and cell biology. Candidates should be willing to work with undergraduate and graduate biology/medical students and contribute to upcoming grant initiatives of the laboratory. The position offers opportunity for academic qualification (Promotion).

The PhD Student position (E13, 65%) is funded for up to three years starting December 2018 at the Institute of Molecular Tumor Biology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster (IMTB home: The IMTB presently hosts two chairs and a young group leader that share the interest in the principles of programming of cancer cells. It comprises modern molecular genetics/biochemistry and cell biology, FACS sorting and mouse core structures. The IMTB closely collaborates with research groups in the University Hospital (UKM) and the Max-Planck Institute for Biomedicine.
