As a Journal Development Editor you are responsible for the success of a defined set of journals across all the brands in Springer Nature. This involves prioritisation of journals for development and the setting and implementation of journal plans accordingly, as well as supporting our stakeholders (Editors, authors, reviewers, and societies). The aims are to optimise the publishing service, optimise commercial opportunities and to increase submissions. Communication is a key part of this role, developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with our stakeholders.

• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Society contacts, Editorial Board members and other stakeholders, acting as their key point of contact for publishing matters
• Build excellent relationships and team working within the immediate team and other departments
• Prioritise journals for development or maintenance in line with company strategy; produce and implement journal development plans for the journals
• Develop knowledge of the fields the portfolio operates within (e.g. to identify important journals/features/hot topics etc) and use knowledge to actively identify journal development opportunities for Open Research Group
• Manage set up activities and contract renewals for journals within your cluster within expected timeframes
• Work alongside Editors and Editorial Board members to increase journal visibility, submissions and reputation within the field
• Ensure that journals receive appropriate promotion (e.g. blogs, press releases, social media etc) as per targets set
• Ensure that authors and reviewers who contact a journal receive appropriate support from the Publisher, ensuring that communications are responded to within a timely fashion and upscale when required
• Monitor data on peer review service to optimise manuscript flow. Pre-empt issues and work with the Editorial Office as well as internal and external Editors to resolve and delays
• Be familiar with COPE Guidelines to be able to advise on ethical queries, and ensure all journals comply with these

• Knowledge of the publishing industry in China and worldwide
• Master degree or above, with a background in Engineering or Applied sciences preferred
• Interest in open access publishing

• Highly customer-focused, with excellent communication, influencing and problem solving skills
• Excellent time management and organisational skills; including proven ability to take ownership to drive and complete tasks, to meet deadlines consistently, and adapt quickly to change
• Ability to work in a team and to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Mandarin
• Willing to travel and represent Springer Nature at external visits/events

• Scientific editorial/publishing experience
• Experience developing and maintaining productive and friendly relations/partnerships with academic and industry-based scientists
• Experience working in an international environment desirable
