Asia’s #1 and one of the world’s top Medical Schools, Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (Head: Assoc. Professor Theo Kofidis) has an immediate opening for a talented, dedicated Surgeon/Surgical Trainee with academic aspirations, as a Research Fellow, to assume a project in surgical innovation and participate in many others, in our Advanced Cardiac Surgery Laboratory. Our academic surgical laboratory focuses on new Heart valve technologies, Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery, Endo-imaging, Hybrid procedures and Myocardial Restoration.
Equipped with the latest experimental hi tech, and embedded in a rich and conducive environment of surgical pursuit, we aim at changing lives by introducing new, less invasive technologies and solutions. Supervised by Professor Kofidis and his team, the candidate will have ample opportunity for hands-on, large animal surgery, hybrid applications, academic presentations and output, and hands-off clinical observations in our Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery program.
Our laboratory, simulation center and clinical programs synthesize a “Center of Excellence”, in cooperation with Industry (Medtronic, Abbott, J&J, LivaNova), and constitutes a training hub in Asia Pacific, embedded in an exotic natural environment.
Main duties and responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and research team members to ensure the successful completion of the project on time.
Animal’s samples collection and processing
Prepare assist and perform animal experiments: Myocardial infarction models in swine and rodents, cardiopulmonary bypass, including peri-and post- operative care
Data acquisition and analysis: Hemodynamics, echocardiography, MRI, CT scan
Perform operation on swine and rodent animal models
Prepare progress report and manuscripts
University Degree in Medicine, specialty in Heart Surgery preferred
Strong knowledge of GLP and GCP
Some experience with large animals is preferred.
Some basic understanding of Echocardiography is desired
Good interpersonal skill and communication in English
Good at statistics and office software
Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
