Salary: Grade 9: £47,263 - £54,765 p.a.
We are seeking to appoint a Junior Group Leader in Cancer Immunity within the Human Immunology Unit (HIU), Investigative Medicine at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. This role reports to the Professor Vincenzo Cerundolo, director of the HIU.
The potholder will be an enthusiastic investigator willing to develop an independent research programme in cancer immunity within the HIU, who will be able to take advantage of the added value of the HIU and of the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. Applicants will be shortlisted based on their track record in cancer immunity and will be asked to highlight their future research programmes in the area of cancer immunity, including research on:
1) Investigation of the tumour microenvironment to identify strategies used by tumours to hamper cancer specific immune responses and to understand the mechanisms by which tumour infiltrating myeloid and stroma cells can modulate tumour-specific immune responses. A deeper understanding of the interplay between inflammation, cancer cells and immune response will have important implications for the future development of vaccination strategies, diagnostics and therapeutics.
2) Dissection of the events, which control priming, life span and overall fitness of tumour specific T cell responses. The use of two photon microscopy to characterize tumour specific immune responses in vivo will be of interest.
3) Development of new vaccination protocols, using strategies based on the cross-talk between the innate and adaptive immune responses.
4) Development of translational programmes to characterise tumour specific immune responses in cancer patients.
The postholder should hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-qualification research experience and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies
The role is full-time and fixed-term for 3 years, in the first instance.
You will be required to upload a CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 12 December 2018.
