Post-Doctoral Scientist - Protein Crystallography and Fragment-based Discovery

We have an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist with an interest in protein crystallography and fragment-based discovery to join the group of Professor Paul Brennan, Head of Chemistry at the ARUK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ODDI) and the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC).

The post will be embedded in the Protein Crystallography group at the SGC and will work closely with group’s team leader. This is an exciting possibility for an enthusiastic scientist who wants to drive novel protein targets involved in dementia from gene to compound.

The postholder will be responsible for performing complete fragment screening experiments on targets involved in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia. The postholder is expected to take the lead in advancing initial fragment hits to potent compounds by closely collaborating with computational and medicinal chemists and to guide the elaboration process through crystallographic and biophysical analysis.

This post requires a scientist that is able to drive research programs independently, work well in a team, is instinctively collaborative, and understands the importance of shared credit to drive science. A PhD (or close to completion) around protein crystallography (or equivalent training and experience), and a record of publishing scientific papers will be required.

This full-time post is available for a fixed-term to 31 August 2020, in the first instance, and is available to start immediately.
