The Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science of St. Michael’s Hospital, a research hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, is currently seeking a full time Staff Scientist with an interest in lung or lung-related basic science research. The candidate will be expected to establish a conceptually innovative, competitive and independently-funded basic research program relevant to the pathogenesis, prevention, treatment and/or resolution of lung injury/inflammation. The Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science is located in a state-of-the-art research facility containing outstanding core facilities accessible to all Keenan Scientists. Our 64 core researchers target common and high burden illnesses that are important to patients and strive to make discoveries that will improve patient’s lives. St. Michael’s Hospital is home to some of the top lung researchers in the world and has an international reputation for driving discoveries and innovation. The research enterprise at St. Michael’s Hospital has shown the largest growth of any of the affiliated hospitals across the greater Toronto area and holds more CIHR salary awards than any research hospital across Canada. Our scientists published over 1400 manuscripts in 2017, with many publications in top journals (Science, Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine). This position is for a Canada Research Tier 2 Chair. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e. candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. • PhD or an MD or an equivalent.
• Preferred candidates will have a record of research excellence, including successful research funding and prestigious fellowships and publications. Individuals completing post-doctoral training with exceptional track records may also be considered.
• Priority will be given to applicants with skills in cellular/molecular biology, advanced imaging and/or physiological studies.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and to collaborate with other basic and/or clinical scientists.
• All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English

The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary will range from $78,429 to $148,590 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, and may be eligible for a relocation package and/or start-up fund as well space may be provided.
