The Institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.
As part of the Institute, the Department of Magnetohydrodynamics, invites applications as PhD Student (m/f) in the framework of the Helmholtz-RSF Joint Research Group "Magnetohydrodynamic instabilities: Crucial relevance for large-scale liquid metal batteries and the sun-climate connection".
The position will be available from 01 January 2019. The employment contract is limited to three years.
Tasks:numerical simulations of the flow in liquid metal batteries and comparison with experimental resultsnumerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamic instabilities and their resonant excitation in the context of stellar dynamo models
Requirements:very good university degree, preferably in physics, mathematics, computer science, mechanical engineering or electrical engineeringbasic knowledge of fluid dynamicssolid knowledge of numerical mathematicsproficient programming skillsgood command of written and spoken Englishability for interdisciplinary teamwork
