Multiple Postdoctoral Positions Available
Up to four NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Jiang Zhu’s laboratory for highly motivated candidates who are interested in developing vaccines for HIV-1, HCV, MERS-CoV and other important viral pathogens such as Ebola, Lassa, Flu, RSV, and Zika. Dr. Zhu holds a joint appointment in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology (DiscoBio) and the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA (https://www.scripps.edu/). Potential projects may involve (1) protein/lipid and mRNA/lipid formulation development and testing for vaccine applications, (2) structural characterization of viral glycoproteins, neutralizing antibodies, and their complexes by X-ray crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy, (3) vaccine evaluation in wild-type (WT) mice or humanized mice, rabbits, and non-human primates (NHPs) and immunological analysis of vaccine protection, (4) single-cell-based isolation of neutralizing antibodies from infected human samples and immunized animal samples using antigen-specific sorting and functional screening, and (5) structure-based rational vaccine design by means of epitope scaffolding, antigen stabilization, and nanoparticle display.
Successful candidates will have a recent Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, vaccinology, and structural biology. Prior research experience in mRNA/lipid formulation, structural biology, and animal study will be a plus. Candidates at both junior and senior levels are welcome to apply.
