The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks to recruit an exceptional scholar who can provide energetic and visionary leadership as the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will have an outstanding research record, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to excellence in teaching.
The Head will be expected to maintain a world-class research program in an area broadly related to the major themes of the department. The Head will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the department and have responsibility for the coordination and administration of the overall academic agenda and education activities in the department. The Head will oversee all personnel, curricular, financial, and administrative functions of the department. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the Biological sciences or a related field and qualify for the rank of full professor, a proven record as a leader, an international reputation for research accomplishments, commitment to teaching excellence and student success, and excellent managerial and communication skills.
Located in the heart of one of the world’s great cities, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is the city’s only Carnegie Research 1 public university. UIC has 31,000 students, 15 colleges, a hospital and a health sciences system. The Department of Biological Sciences has active research programs in Ecology and Evolution; Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology; and Neurobiology.
