The Nucleic Acid Memory Institute, within the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering at Boise State University, is seeking a postdoctoral research scientist with a background in super-resolution microscopy, physics and/or optics. The postdoctoral research scientist will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to becoming global leaders in the research, development, and education of nucleic acid memory (NAM). Our vision is to pioneer a digital data storage paradigm by designing, building, and testing accessible, editable, and non-volatile NAM technologies that are inspired by DNA circuits and made possible by our innovations in DNA nanotechnology, optical physics, as well as the materials, biological, and computational sciences.
This nationally competitive funded research (NSF Award ECCS-1807809), will focus on designing, synthesizing, and characterizing functional DNA nanostructures for applications in nucleic acid memory. The nanostructures will form the foundation for two NAM storage prototypes: digital NAM (dNAM) and sequence NAM (seqNAM). In support of this research, we are seeking a postdoctoral research scientist to develop next generation super-resolution light microscopes to enable sub-5 nanometer imaging in 3D and 4D. These lens-based systems with high spatial and temporal resolution allow minimal invasive imaging of NAM. Special effort will be dedicated to (1) the design of new methodologies for single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM, such as STORM and PAINT), (2) understanding and addressing resolution limitations under various imaging conditions and NAM configurations, and (3) the application of super-resolution microscopy to study NAM architecture with links to the fields of epigenetics, developmental biology, and DNA sequencing.
• Ph.D. in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Biophysics, or Biomedical Engineering
• Experience with fluorescence microscopy, super resolution microscopy, and/or single molecule imaging
• Experience developing microscopy techniques, such as optical, fluorescence, and/or scanning probe microscopy will be an asset
• Experience with MATLAB or ImageJ or other scientific programming languages
• Excellent team working and communication skills
