The University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Psychology. We seek applicants who use animal models to study the neural basis of sensory, perceptual and cognitive processes and/or their development. We are particularly enthusiastic about candidates whose research addresses these issues at the circuit, systems and behavioral levels. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, independent, and externally funded research program, and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction and training. The new faculty member will have access to several training programs, including the Psychology Graduate Program, the interdepartmental Neuroscience Graduate Program, the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, and the Neuroscience Undergraduate Major, and also become a member of the newly established UVA Brain Institute. This position is part of the pan-University neuroscience cluster hire initiative. This cross-Grounds initiative builds on momentum of the UVA Brain Institute and will promote collaborative activity across College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine, and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The cross-disciplinary relationships ensure continuing prominence of neuroscience scholarship at the graduate and undergraduate levels, interdisciplinary education, scientific training and research. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across Grounds, as well as with the UVA Brain Institute to advance the University’s strategic interest in neuroscience, broadly conceived.
