Within the scope of its strategic planning, the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) aims to consistently advance its focal research areas neurosciences, cardiovascular medicine, and oncology by integrating approaches from both translational and systems medicine. On the Göttingen Campus, the UMG is closely networked with the institutes of natural and biological sciences of the university, as well as with the non-university institutions.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) invites applications for an

Professorship (W2)
Molecular Neurobiology
(Pay grade W2, fixed-term, tenure track)

commencing as soon as possible. The position will be appointed initially for 5 years, with an option for permanent professorship.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate with a distinct research profile recognized both nationally and internationally. The candidate must have extensive knowledge in electrophysiology and the developmental dynamics of neuronal networks as well as practical experience with innovative and optophysiological methods. The key aspect of this professorship will be the investigation of excitable synapses and their integration into functionally optimized cortical networks.

The successful candidate will be expected to sustainably strengthen the core research areas and networks of the University Medical Center as well as establish a multidisciplinary research group.

Prerequisite for the position is a university degree/diploma as well as a habilitation or equivalent scientific qualification. Experience in managing a scientific research group, acquiring competitive external funding, and supervising doctoral students is essential. The successful candidate must also have experience in teaching as well as working in international scientific collaborations and involvement in academic governance.

Further requirements for the appointment of university professors are laid out in the current version of § 25 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Lower Saxony. The UMG reserves the right of appointment.
