Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Ismail lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine, Department of Pathology. The candidate will join our funded research program whose goal is to determine the cellular and molecular immune mechanisms involved in innate recognition of intracellular bacteria by pattern recognition receptors and the effect of this innate sensing on the acquired immune responses to infection. Research in the laboratory is both basic and translational in nature and makes use of in vitro and in vivo animal-based model systems. These studies will involve one or more of the following techniques: animal experiments, flow cytometry, T cell proliferation assay, isolation of primary myeloid cells from bone marrow, RT-PCR, western blotting, cell culture using primary cells and cell lines, transfections, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, viral vector-mediated overexpression or silencing, and general immunological and molecular biology methods. The candidate will also play a major role in the preparation of manuscripts that arise from his/her work and will be expected to present his/her work at local and national meetings. The candidate will devote 100% effort to these tasks.
Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in one or more of the following areas: Host-microbial interactions, inflammasomes, autophagy, cell signaling, T cell responses, viral-vector mediated gene transfer technology, and basic molecular biology and immunology techniques.
Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national grants. Applicant must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant to the research highlighted above. Please send current curriculum vitae to: Dr. Nahed Ismail, MD, Ph.D. at Email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
