We are recruiting a Senior Electron Microscope Engineer to join the team that manages, maintains, develops, and supports users of, the world-leading electron microscopy facility at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, UK.

The EM facility applies and develops electron cryomicroscopy and cryo-electron tomography in the context of Structural Biology. The facility includes three Titan Krios, two Polara, two 200kV FEG microscopes, a Scios dual-beam SEM and two Tecnai Spirit microscopes. The facility hosts research programmes aimed at the development of new hardware and software for cryo-electron microscopy and has approximately 150 active users applying electron cryomicroscopy and cryo-electron tomography to study important biological problems.

Main duties include: maintaining and servicing microscope hardware and software; interacting with MRC-LMB scientists on research projects aimed at improving the performance, efficiency and usability of the electron microscopes through modification of software or hardware; providing high-level assistance and trouble-shooting to microscope users; interacting with microscope manufacturers including Thermo-Fisher (FEI) and other facility staff to ensure the smooth operation of the EM facility.

Depending on qualifications and experience, appointment will be made at MRC Band 3 or 4. A relevant degree or an equivalent level of experience in the operation and maintenance of electron microscopes, good interpersonal skills, and an excellent knowledge of electron microscopy, are required.
