About the Institute ICS-3: We are investigating the equilibrium phase behaviour, structure and dynamics of colloidal, biomimetic and bio-macromolecular systems, as well as their behaviour under non-equilibrium conditions, in particular in response to several types of external fields.
Background of the project:The dynamics of protein plays an essential role in many biological pathways. The diffusive dynamics of proteins in a confining environment (like close to organelles in cells) differs drastically from that in the bulk environment. There are essential differences with bulk diffusion when the protein is embedded in a membrane (such as G-alpha proteins in the post synapse). To understand biological processes on a quantitative level it is often essential to quantify the diffusive properties of proteins in confinement and/or membranes.
Your profile: We are looking for a motivated young scientist, who has a strong interest in interdisciplinary experimental research. As a potential candidate, you are expected to haveA master degree in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Biophysics or related fields;Preferably, hand-on experience with techniques that are commonly used in soft-matter physics, such as microscopy, light scattering, interfacial rheology etc.;Preferably (some basic) experience with protein sample preparation;Basic knowledge on data analysis and programming languages; Good English communication skills;
Our offer:a position in an international team with themes ranging from theoretical soft-matter physics to experimental investigation of bio-inspired systems. Research will be primarily conducted on the campus of the FZ-Jülich. an interdisciplinary working environment on an attractive research campus at Jülich, well located in the triangle Cologne-Düsseldorf-Aachen.Opportunities to attend international conferences and various training programs. Payment of the PhD fellow will be based on salary grade EG13 (50-75%) Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD).
